why the baby’s in a manger

December 21st, 2006

i have been employed in the same company for eight years now and every year there’s recollection for all employees. except for this year, i have always been half-heartedly attending recollections. there are tons of reasons for this, one of which is that it’s required ( or so they say ).

i’ve psyched myself about attending the recollection this year. it’s a different feeling inside because my body and spirit are willing. perhaps this is the reason why, more than ever, i was receptive to the message. the preacher’s said a lot but the heart of the message was  that Jesus was born in a manger so that He would be accessible to all. He was not born in the palace  otherwise not a lot of people would be able to come to Him. Mary and Joseph can afford expensive places, they were descendants of David but  in a manger, with no high walls, everyone can come… but not all did.that night, only the shepherds came.

the nativity story’s been told to me for God knows how many times but i was not told this angle in the story. it hit right through me. He’s always been accessible but i’m so notorious at finding an excuse to really come to Him. i should be damned but thanks to the more familiar angle in the nativity story- salvation.

time to pick my pieces and get fixed.
