“This Promise” —-what promise???

i was on a bus to bataan last tuesday. see, i got invited to visit the place so without batting and eyelash i said "yes". the trip was early morning so i was busy trying to wipe off the hot choco i spilt on my skinny pants when i noticed the tv infront. it was showing a poorly copied dvd of the movie "the promise" starring angel locsin and richard guttierez…man these two are popular and i don’t get it!

anyway. i saw the movie poster at SM manila and i honestly thought it’s good until i saw the movie that tuesday morning. i can’t believe movies like that are being shown ( and i think what’s more horrifying is that people actually watch it!). why, it’s a movie that teaches someone how to effectively flirt ( nothing wrong that right? ), showcases domestic violence which the film tries to resolve through another form of violence i.e. mug-the-bastard-batterer-in-front-of-his-gate, and condones infidelity  by picturing the husband as an obsessive worthless piece of s***.

in a capsule the story( at least from what i saw that day )is that angel and richard are childhood sweethearts who grew up in TJ’s parent’s hacienda.angel and richard both work in the hacienda. one day TJ comes home to the hacienda from wherever and instantly got attracted to angel. because she couldn’t stay put angle hurt herself after prodding richard to go with her to the gathering at the hacienda. she can’t walk so the benevolent parents of TJ had her nursed. she sleeps peacefully after having been attended to. TJ enjoys watching her sleep while stupid richard waited outside TJs house the whole night for angel to come out ( haler! go home, sleep and come back the next day!). the next day when angel was all to well she and TJs sister decided to play dress up. she wore this cocktail dress to walk around the hacienda ( whoever decided on the costumes is seriously drugged ). she started becoming cold to richard and when TJ obviously shows her real affection she goes back to richard. anyway, soon after this bad boy brother of angel played by ryan ( such a good actor but is given crazy roles ) came home and forced angel to marry TJ. angel protested but she gets beaten up plus with a gun pointed at her she couldn’t do anything right? she marries TJ richard was devastated, drinks and left their town. he went to manila and became rich for fighting ( that after having beaten black and blue by the bad boy brother…how ironic). now he’s rich he goes back to the hacienda. they all got shocked. TJs sister ( a pretty girl ) now flirts with richard, he plays with her but still loves angel. angel feels the same way and the married woman that she is started wearing the necklace given to her by richard ages ago. they couldn’t fight their feelings so they began seeing each other. and because she is such a nice girl, ahe refuses to go away with richard without telling her husband. she goes home after her late rendesvouz with richard and tells her husband to set her free, the obssessive husband TJ is hurt and of course would not allow that ( who would anyway? ) beats her and locked her up. she gets sick and all and one day she was found pregnant by richard, TJ beats her up some more until she passed out, TJ stopped when he saw blood stains on her skirt, richard finally came shouts at TJ " anong ginawa mo sa kanya?" and TJ couldn’t answer because of guilt or shock or whatever his expression was about. so instead of calling an ambulance, richard carries angel not to the hospital but to the beach they used to go to when they were still kids…the end!

now tell me if this is anything called entertainment. i would not even pay 20 pesos to watch this.
